Alisson reaffirms commitment to Liverpool amid Saudi Arabia links

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has insisted he remains committed to life at Anfield, despite being linked with a move away in the summer.

The Brazilian was forced to miss the Reds’ last two outings after picking up a muscle injury in his side’s Champions League victory over Milan at San Siro. Caoimhin Kelleher stepped up in his place for wins over Bournemouth and West Ham, but now Alisson is expected to return to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

His absence, it seems, has given the shot stopper time to reflect on his motivations, admitting that he is committed to a future under Arne Slot despite ongoing speculation of a move to Saudi Arabia.

“We are committed to the plan and can see it is a good plan,” he told BBC Sport. “We still have a lot to improve but we are in the right direction. We have a big gap to reach for our best but we are doing well so far. I am committed to this club 100% and that involves being part of the leadership group.

“We were great before but Arne is bringing to us a new energy and knowledge. He is a really smart manager and he is helping us a lot. You can see from how we are playing now.

“Here at Liverpool, I improved my one-to-one so much because we had so many one-v-one situations. I can react quickly because of the way I train. The best is still to come.”

He also gave an insight into his motivations to achieve, revealing that his family spur him on more than any potential trophies.

“My main motivation is not the prizes, the trophies – my motivations come from inside,” he continued. “My faith in God makes me work hard and better and want to be the best in what I do because I believe everything I do is a way to praise God. Winning trophies and awards makes me happy, but my motivation comes from inside, my family.

“The main part is hard work. I always like to improve myself. When I do a season that is my best season, this is the standard I need to go further.”

Liverpool return to action on Saturday when they face Wolves, before preparing for another Champions League fixture at home to Bologna on Wednesday.
