Arkansas basketball 2024-25 practice news: John Calipari depth chart predictions from Razorbacks insiders

The Arkansas Razorbacks are coming off a 16-17 season in the final year under coach Eric Musselman, but the fan base has wiped that campaign from their memory as they head into a highly anticipated season under first-year coach John Calipari. The former Kentucky coach won a national championship with the Wildcats just over a decade ago, and he quickly got to work building a staff and Arkansas basketball roster in the offseason. Calipari brought multiple players with him from Lexington along with snagging some of the top players available in the college basketball transfer portal. Arkansas was picked to finish fourth in the SEC by the media last month, while two Razorbacks were preseason Second-Team All-SEC selections.

Arkansas took down No. 1 Kansas in a charity exhibition game last Friday and will face TCU in another exhibition on Nov. 1. The Razorbacks officially open the season against Lipscomb on Nov. 6, so Calipari is trying to round out the Arkansas basketball rotation heading into his first campaign in Fayetteville. Arkansas basketball roster overview

Arkansas lost almost every key piece from last year’s roster, but junior forward Trevon Brazile opted to return and is expected to be in the starting lineup. Brazile averaged 8.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game after missing most of the 2022-23 season. With only one player choosing to return following Musselman’s departure, Calipari needed to build almost an entire roster from scratch.

He put his recruiting skills to good use, bringing in a pair of preseason Second-Team All-SEC selections in guard Johnell Davis (FAU) and big man Jonas Aidoo (Tennessee). Davis helped lead FAU to a Final Four run as a junior before winning the AAC Player of the Year award last season, while Aidoo averaged 11.4 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Vols. Calipari also brought some talent with him from Kentucky, including projected starting guard D.J. Wagner, who is a former top-10 recruit.

The final spot in the starting lineup could be occupied by freshman Karter Knox, whose brother Kevin played for Calipari several years ago. Freshmen Boogie Fland and Billy Richmond III join Kentucky transfers Adou Thiero and Zvonimir Ivisic as other players who will factor into the rotation. There is plenty of talent on the roster, but Calipari has some difficult decisions to make before the season begins. Join HawgSports to see the latest Arkansas basketball updates
