City Given Major Injury Boost As Key Player Is Pictured In Training

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland took part in training on Monday morning easing any concerns about his fitness.

The Norwegian international picked up what looked like an ankle injury during the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, following a clash with Dan Burn.

Haaland did complete the full 90 minutes but, when asked about the forward’s fitness after the match at St James’ Park, manager Pep Guardiola said the player was carrying a few “knocks”.

Despite that, it hasn’t affected his ability to train and he is expected to be in the squad for their upcoming fixtures in the Champions League and the Premier League.

Haaland’s availability is a big boost

Having dropped points in their first Champions League fixture against Inter Milan, City will want to get back in the swing of things with a big win on Tuesday night when they face Slovan Bratislava away from home. With Haaland involved, they have a much greater chance of getting the three points.

In the Premier League, the stalemate versus Newcastle means they are now level on points with Arsenal, whilst having fallen behind Liverpool in the table. Haaland’s availability will be big positive heading into an important game against Fulham at the Etihad this weekend before the next international break.

City don’t have any cover up front

The Premier League champions’ decision not to replace Julian Alvarez after he was sold to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window means a lot is riding on Haaland staying fit.

Guardiola has shown in the past that his City teams can cope without a main striker but the club’s chances of winning league titles and other major honours are greatly increased if their prolific No.9 is able to play week in and week out.
