Man Utd’s best and worst players in 1-1 draw with FC Twente

Manchester United kicked off their 2024/25 UEFA Europa League campaign with a rather disappointing 1-1 draw against FC Twente on Wednesday evening.

What made the draw even more disappointing, was the fact that the Red Devils had actually taken the lead in the game through a stunning Christian Eriksen goal in the first half.

A lapse in concentration from Eriksen in the second however, would ultimately lead to Sam Lammers’ equalising goal for Twente. United huffed and puffed in search of a winning goal thereafter, but were unable to breach a stout Twente defence.

Here’s Man Utd’s best and worst players in the draw, according to 90min’s esteemed player ratings.

Manuel Ugarte: 8/10

Having watched his first full game at Man Utd, it’s pretty easy to see why Ten Hag and co. were so keen to get a deal done for Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan was as good as advertised in the draw on Wednesday evening, putting in a shift deep in the Man Utd midfield, reading the game superbly and sweeping up danger when necessary. His six successful duels and five recoveries tell you all you need to know about a very solid outing for Ugarte at Old Trafford.

Honourable mention

Christian Eriksen: 7/10

This a tricky one.

On one hand, Eriksen scored an absolutely stunning goal to give Man Utd the lead in the 35th minute.

On the other, he fell asleep in possession in the lead up to Twente’s equaliser in the 68th minute.

The reason he’s earned himself an ‘honourable mention’ in this section is largely down to what he did outside of those two minutes. The midfielder was very, very impressive, completing 93% of his passes and creating three chances for his teammates.

Bruno Fernandes: 5/10

Man Utd’s captain went surprisingly off-the-boil against Twente.

Bruno Fernandes failed to impact the game in any way on Wednesday, completing just 75% of his passes in what looked like a rather jaded performance from the attacking midfielder.
