Students at Goodrich Academy in Fitchburg were dismissed following a campus lockdown in connection with a stabbing and a student’s arrest Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A 15-year-old student was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police captain Christopher Garcia said in a statement to MassLive.

Police arrived at the school at around 1:59 p.m. about a reported assault, Garcia said. Officers immediately saw a student who was stabbed before they were then hospitalized. The student’s injuries were not life-threatening.

At 2:32 p.m., Fitchburg Public Schools notified families that Goodrich Academy remained on lockdown, students were safe and police were on campus, according to a Facebook post. At 3 p.m., the lockdown was lifted and students were dismissed, the district posted at 2:44 p.m.

“School-based and district personnel will communicate additional information about the incident as soon as possible,“ the district wrote.

Police believe the incident was targeted and there is no ongoing threat to other students, Garcia said.

The Fitchburg Police Department will continue to investigate the incident.
