What to Know

Michigan has played every game this season on their home field, but they’ll have to hit the road on Saturday. They and the Washington Huskies will face off in a Big Ten Bowl Subdivision battle at 7:30 p.m. ET at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. The Huskies took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on the Wolverines, who come in off a win.

If Michigan beats Washington with 27 points on Saturday, it’s going to be the squad’s new lucky number: they’ve won their past two games with that exact score. Michigan skirted past Minnesota 27-24. That’s two games straight that the Wolverines have won by exactly three points.

Kalel Mullings had a dynamite game for Michigan, rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Mullings’ rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 111 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Even though they won, Michigan had trouble moving the ball and finished the game with only 241 total yards. That’s the fewest total yards they’ve posted since back in December of 2023.

Armed with a fresh set of downs Michigan has opted to try a rushing play 65.1% of the time. The team tried something a little different on Saturday though, only rushing on 34.6% of their first downs. Given they posted a dismal four yards per play they probably won’t be trying that again any time soon.

Meanwhile, Washington might have drawn first blood against Rutgers last Friday, but it was Rutgers who got the last laugh. Washington fell just short of Rutgers by a score of 21-18. The Huskies gained 222 more yards on the day, but it was the Scarlet Knights that made the best use of them.

Nobody from Washington had a standout game, but they got scores from Will Rogers and Denzel Boston.

Michigan’s win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. As for Washington, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.

Saturday’s match might be decided in the on the ground. Michigan has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 194.8 rushing yards per game. However, it’s not like Washington struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 173.2. It’s looking like Saturday’s matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Michigan is hoping to beat the odds on Saturday, as the experts think they’re headed for a loss. This will be their first time playing as the underdogs on the road this season.
