19-year-old killed in Boston shooting leaves behind ‘legacy of kindness’

A 19-year-old killed in a shooting at a public housing complex in Jamaica Plain last month was remembered in his obituary as a “charismatic soul who brightened every room he was in.”

Quami Clarke, of Boston, was found shot outside 277 Centre St. on Sept. 23. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Born in Portland, Maine, Clarke spent most of his life with friends and relatives in Jamaica Plain, according to his obituary.

Clarke cared deeply for his family and was a “thoughtful friend, student, and community member.”

Less than two weeks before the shooting, Clarke had received a high school diploma from Excel High School. His teachers and mentors will “forever remember his empathy, his resilience, and his absolutely contagious smile,” Clarke’s family wrote.

“He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and joy that will continue to inspire those who knew him,” the notice reads. “Quami was deeply loved.”

Funeral services for Clarke were held on Oct. 4 at Dolan Funeral Home in Dorchester.
