Ashley Sessa Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week – Northwestern Athletics

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern’s Ashley Sessa has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after an exceptional weekend, tallying 11 points across two crucial conference victories.

Sessa delivered a hat trick with three goals in Friday’s 4-0 shutout of Rutgers. She followed that performance with two goals and an assist in a 7-2 victory over No. 17 Penn State on Sunday, cementing her status as one of the top offensive threats in the Big Ten.

With 12 goals and 7 assists for a total of 31 points on the season, Sessa ranks second in the Big Ten in both categories. This is her first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor, adding to an already impressive season that has seen her reach national recognition. Earlier this year, she earned the No. 4 spot on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top Ten Plays of the Week.

A transfer from the University of North Carolina, Sessa has seamlessly integrated into the Wildcats’ lineup. She is also a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team (2021-present), having qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. Sessa took an Olympic redshirt this year to focus on training and competing with the national team, further demonstrating her commitment to the sport at the highest level.

In her freshman season at UNC, Sessa recorded 23 points on nine goals and five assists. She has already surpassed those totals in 2024, playing a key role in Northwestern’s offensive firepower and continued success in Big Ten competition.
