The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost back-to-back games after starting off 3-0.

Starting quarterback Justin Fields has played well (passer rating of 97.1) through the team’s first five games.

But with veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, who was supposed to be the team’s starter before he got hurt, expected to be a full participant in practice Wednesday, the dial is going to be turned up on Fields.

ESPN analyst Kimberly A. Martin believes Fields has the ability to solidify himself as the long-term starter.

“It’s on Justin Fields from the beginning. Justin Fields can slam the door for good,” Martin said Wednesday morning on Get Up.

Martin believes that Fields has the chance to control the quarterback situation in Pittsburgh with his play.

Head coach Mike Tomlin could decide to roll with Wilson as the starter, but he hasn’t yet due to the health of the nine-time Pro-Bowler and the success that Fields has had.

But, Fields certainly has to keep it up.

Anytime a team loses, the finger can always be pointed at the quarterback under center.

Fields has performed above expectations so far after being traded from Chicago in the offseason.

The former Ohio State Buckeye has thrown five touchdowns, just one interception, and he has completed nearly 68% of his passes.

However, Pittsburgh has scored 20+ points in just two of their five games and it caught up to them on Sunday night in their home loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

If Fields continues to be the starter, he has to continue to produce because if he doesn’t, Tomlin has another option.
