Former Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier will start/open for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the San Diego Padres in Game 3 of the NLDS on Wednesday.
It is an elimination game for Los Angeles, which trails the best-of-five series 2-1.
Brasier never pitched beyond one inning in the four games he opened for the Dodgers in 2024. So this will be a true bullpen game for LA.
The 37-year-old righty posted a 3.54 ERA, 3.31 FIP and 0.96 WHIP in 29 outings (28 innings) during the regular season. He averaged 8.0 strikeouts and just 1.6 walks per nine innings.
He spent about three and a half months on the IL with a right calf strain.
Boston designated Brasier for assignment May 14, 2023, and then released him seven days later. He then signed with the Dodgers last June 4.
He has a 1.89 ERA in 68 outings (four starts) with Los Angeles.
He helped the Red Sox beat the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series.
Dylan Cease (14-11, 3.47 ERA, 33 starts) will pitch for the Padres.
