Patriots sign veteran offensive lineman to active roster

The Patriots are adding more depth to their offensive line.

According to his agency, Sports Trust Advisors, Ben Brown has been signed off the Law Vegas Raiders practice squad and to the Patriots 53-man roster. This move gives the Patriots more depth on the interior of their much-maligned offensive line.

This preseason, Brown played center for the Raiders. In three games, Pro Football Focus had him down for one sack, and no hits allowed. All of his 106 preseason snaps came at the center position.

For the Patriots, this move is about adding more depth and moving on after David Andrews suffered a season-ending torn rotator cuff. The Patriots started Nick Leverett at center in last weekend’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. They have center Bryan Hudson on the practice squad. On Monday, they also signed center Sincere Haynesworth to the practice squad.

Brown, 26, went to Ole Miss where he started at right guard and center. He transitioned to center full-time in 2020 but suffered a biceps injury as a senior the next season. That led him to go undrafted in 2022. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a rookie free agent.

Brown spent that first season on the injured reserve due to another biceps injury. In 2023, he spent most of the season on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. Brown was elevated for one game that season, where he played eight snaps at left guard.

He finished 2023 on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. This offseason, he signed a futures contract with the Raiders and eventually signed to their practice squad at the end of training camp.
