Giants’ Malik Nabers’ Week 6 status revealed | Will the rookie WR return vs. Bengals?

The Giants will have to make due without rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers for a second straight week.

Ahead of Friday’s practice, coach Brian Daboll revealed that Nabers, who suffered a concussion two weeks ago, will not play in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Nabers did not practice this week, but he was starting to show some progress as he was at least on the field and working with trainers on the sidelines on Wednesday. Alas, it was not enough for him to play — which means the Giants will be without their No. 1 offensive weapon against a desperate Bengals club in a primetime game.

The No. 6 pick in this year’s draft, Nabers ranks first in the league in receptions with 35 and eighth in receiving yards with 386. He’s caught three touchdowns this season. The 21-year-old suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the Giants’ loss to the Cowboys.

Asked about the severity of the hit, Daboll was mostly mum, but noted that “it was a pretty big hit.”

“I’m not going to get into what it was, but it was a big hit,” he said.

The Giants were able to win without Nabers and No. 1 running back Devin Singletary in Seattle. With Singletary likely to return, let’s see if they can have a repeat performance against a shaky Bengals secondary. Look for Darius Slayton, who had 122 yards on eight catches last week, to once again fill the void left by Nabers in Week 6.
