The Yankees were finishing up a Saturday afternoon workout at Yankee Stadium when the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers’ do-or-die American League Division Series game got underway in Cleveland.
Once the Yankees positions were done hitting and the pitchers were done with their throwing, they kept tabs from clubhouse televisions to see who they play next.
For the second time in three seasons, third in five and fourth time since 2017, the Yankees and Guardians will meet up in postseason play, this time in the American League Championship Series.
The Guardians advanced through the ALDS round by the Tigers 7-3 in Game 5 that including center fielder Lane Thomas hitting a fifth-inning, tie-breaking grand slam off Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal and star closer Emmanuel Clase working two perfect innings for a six-out save.
The Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals in four games in their Division Series, the clincher a 3-1 road win on Thursday night.
Game 1 of the ALCS will be Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
The ALCS will match up teams that had the best two record in the league.
While the Yankees won the AL East with a 94-68 record, the Guardians took the AL Central with a 92-69 mark.
