Manchester City are among three clubs interested in signing Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco, according to InterLive.it.
The Italian website claims that the Premier League champions, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are battling it out for the defender’s signature.
Dimarco has had a strong start to the season, having particularly caught the eye with his performances on international duty with Italy.
The 26-year-old has scored one goal and racked up three assists in his last four appearances for the Azzurri, finding the back of the net during the 3-1 win over France, as well as creating goals against Israel and Belgium.
For Inter, Dimarco got on the scoresheet in the Milan derby last month whilst also providing an assist versus Udinese a week later.
Dimarco’s asking price is steep
InterLive report that the fullback is very highly rated by his club and it would take a “stellar offer” of around €80m (£66.5m) to tempt them into selling up.
That is a sizeable valuation and it may well put off City from making an approach in January or at the end of the season.
City are well-stocked on the left-hand side
While some may say that the Cityzens don’t have a recognised left-back in their squad, manager Pep Guardiola has deployed Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake in the position with a great deal of success.
Guardiola doesn’t require both his fullbacks to play out wide, and it helps that both Gvardiol and Ake can tuck in and make a back three if required.
Of course, if there is a change in manager then the need to add a natural fullback on the left flank may become more pressing. For that reason, the interest in Dimarco is not that surprising, but he won’t be a top target at the moment.
