ST ANDREWS, Scotland (October 16, 2024) – Led by four head-to-head victories, the Northwestern University men’s golf team defeated Arizona, 4.5-1.5, to win team championship at the St Andrews Links Collegiate today in St Andrews, Scotland.
Playing the famed Old Course (par 72; 7,130 yards), the ‘Cats received wins from Cameron Adam, Daniel Svärd, Niall Shiels-Donegan, and Akshay Anand.
Adam turned in the low round of the day by a Wildcat, firing a four-under-par 68 to best Filip. Jakubcik. The Edinburgh, Scotland native jumped out to an early lead, finishing the front nine at four-under-par, before closing out the match with a birdie on the par-four, 18th hole to finish with his aforementioned total.
Svärd put together a bogey-free, three-under-par 69. Staring at a one-shot deficit against Tiger Christensen heading into the 15th hole, the Jarfalla, Sweden product sank a long birdie putt to pull even en route to victory.
Both Shiels-Donegan and Anand jumped out to early leads on the front nine and never looked back. Shiels-Donegan birdied four of his first 10 holes on his way to three-under 69 that saw him best individual medalist Zach Pollo by two strokes, while Anand came in four strokes clear of Matej Baca with an even-par 72 aided by a three-under front nine.
Like Svärd, Archie Finnie closed his day bogey-free, turning in a two-under-par 70 to halve his matchup with Johnny Walker. Ethan Tseng gave Griffin Rhoads all he could handle, falling by just two strokes as he carded a two-over 73.
