'Good News' 'Trust The Board' City Fans React As Links To United Managerial Target Are Played Down

Manchester City don’t have any genuine interest in Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, according to BBC journalist Mike Minay.

With Pep Guardiola yet to make up his mind about his future, Minay says the links to Amorim were “pure speculation”, prompted by the appointment of Hugo Viana as Director of Football:

Amorim is currently favourite for the Manchester United job

Multiple journalists have confirmed that City’s Manchester rivals have begun talks to appoint the 39-year-old as Erik ten Hag’s successor.

Amorim has rejected a Premier League team before, having turned down West Ham last summer, but there is a greater chance of him accepting the position at Old Trafford.

City would want someone with similar principles to Guardiola

As Minay mentions, one of the key issues with Amorim is the formation he uses. The Portuguese coach tends to deploy a 3-4-3 system which is not something that current boss Pep Guardiola plays on a regular basis.

If the Premier League champions are forced into replacing their current head coach in the future, it is thought they would prefer someone like Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso.
