Carlo Ancelotti has praised Luka Modric as “a gift to football” after the Croatian star scored a magnificent goal in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Girona. Modric’s stunning 30-yard strike into the top corner came when Real Madrid was struggling, and his leadership on the field turned the game in their favor. Despite being 39, Modric continues to deliver world-class performances, with Ancelotti attributing his longevity to a combination of natural talent and hard work.

“Luka Modric is a gift to football, and he can continue as long as he wants,” said Ancelotti. “What he does, he does very well. Real Madrid have been fortunate to have a legend who has defined an era, and football has been lucky to have him due to his reliability, quality, and professionalism.”

Ancelotti, who coached Paolo Maldini to UEFA Champions League glory at AC Milan, drew a comparison between Modric and the legendary Italian defender.

Carlo Ancelotti drew a comparison between Luka Modric and Paolo Maldini, highlighting their dedication and commitment to the game. “Maldini won the Champions League at 40 years old, and you can compare the two in terms of what it takes to be a footballer,” Ancelotti said. “They are fantastic examples, and it’s no coincidence they’ve reached this age and are still playing. It’s partly genetics, but mainly it’s commitment and attitude. That’s the only way to play at 40, as Maldini did and Modric is doing.”

Vinicius Junior sealed the win for Real Madrid with a goal from a Kylian Mbappe assist, and Ancelotti was pleased with how the forwards worked together, as Real Madrid joined Barcelona at the top of La Liga with 54 points. “I saw him [Vinicius] at his best,” Ancelotti said. “He could’ve been more clinical in front of goal, but in the second half, he was unstoppable. He played a game at his level. He rose to the occasion and had chances to score.”

On Mbappe’s performance, Ancelotti commented, “He was really happy. He didn’t score, but he gave Vini an assist and was really dangerous in the second half. He cares a lot about the team winning.”

David Alaba made his first start since recovering from a serious knee injury, and Ancelotti was pleased with his performance. “After a lengthy injury, he had a good game,” said Ancelotti. “He was comfortable, well-positioned, and calm with and without the ball. Little by little, he’s reaching his best level. We mustn’t forget that he was ready a month ago, but he had the groin injury and couldn’t play. He only needs a few more minutes. Playing every three days could be a risk, but he can handle one game a week without any problems. I was able to give Rudiger and Valverde a rest, and we have fewer emergencies at the back.”
