Manchester United could re-sign defender Alvaro Fernandez from Benfica as early as the January transfer window, according to Givemesport.
The Spaniard was loaned out to the Primeira Liga outfit in January this year and he was subsequently signed with a buy clause worth £5m.
Fernandez has since developed into a key player for the Portuguese giants and his performances have already grabbed the attention of United.
It is now reported that United will discuss the prospect of re-signing Fernandez with Ruben Amorim, who has been appointed as the new manager.
Amorim has good knowledge about Benfica from his time at Sporting Lisbon and he could make the final decision over Fernandez’s future.
As part of the sale, United have the option to re-sign him for £17m which is significantly less than the £42m release clause available for other teams.
Real Madrid have also been linked with the youngster, but they are more likely to pursue the services of Alphonso Davies on a free transfer.
