Report: Liverpool scout forward duo with Mohamed Salah future unclear

Liverpool have scouted Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as they plan for life after Mohamed Salah, according to a new report.

Salah’s Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season and it remains unclear whether or not the Egyptian will ink an extension.

The 32-year-old has started the 2024/25 season in fine form, scoring six goals in nine Premier League appearances, and remains an integral part of a Liverpool front line that also boasts the likes of Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo.

Sky Sports report that Liverpool are planning for all eventualities and are busy identifying players they think are capable of playing for Arne Slot in the future.

Semenyo is a player well known to Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes as he was responsible for plucking the 24-year-old out of the Championship in order to sign for Bournemouth, and he has started the season in fine form.

As for Mbeumo, he’s established himself as Brentford’s talisman after the departure of Ivan Toney to the Saudi Pro League, scoring eight goals in nine Premier League appearances this season. The Cameroon international is known for his pace, dribbling ability and set-piece expertise, and his profile has significantly increased over the past 12 months.

Liverpool have made a fine start to the season under Slot and sit second in the Premier League table behind unbeaten Manchester City. The Reds have won seven of their nine matches and picked up a valuable point away at Arsenal last time out.

They are also doing well in the revamped Champions League after recording a trio of wins over AC Milan, Bologna and RB Leipzig.
