Northwestern Hosts Penn State Sunday In 2024 Home Finale – Northwestern Athletics

EVANSTON, Ill. (November 2, 2024) – Northwestern (8-7-1, 2-6-1 B1G) wraps up its 2024 regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon when it entertains Penn State in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.

With a win over the Nittany Lions, the ‘Cats, who are 6-2-1 at home this season, can secure back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2013-14.

LAST TIME OUT
Brandon Clagette netted his second goal of the season as Northwestern dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 16 Indiana last Tuesday at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.  Bryant Mayer picked up his team-high seventh assist on Clagette’s tally.

SCOUTING PENN STATE
Penn State, which sits just a point in front of Northwestern in the Big Ten Conference table, enters Sunday’s regular season finale at 5-8-2 overall (2-5-2 B1G).  The Nittany Lions dropped a third straight contest last Saturday, falling to Wisconsin by a 2-0 final in University Park, Pa.  Penn State, which is led by seventh-year head coach Jeff Cook, has struggled mightily away from home this season, going just 1-4-1 away from Jeffrey Field.

Cook’s attack is spearheaded by Aboubacar Camara. Camara has made the most of his opportunities, netting a team-high five goals across only 10 appearances.  He accounted for both tallies in the Nittany Lions’ most recent win, a 2-1 triumph over Rutgers on October 7.  2023 Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection Caden Grabfelder sits just behind Camara on the team’s scoring chart, having put up four goals and an assist in 14 matches. Grabfelder also leads the team in both shots (28) and shots on goal (13).

Andrew Cooke has seen the lion’s share of the action in goal for Penn State, starting in 12 contests.  A graduate transfer from Colgate, Cooke holds a 2.25 goals against average and a 0.597 save percentage.

SERIES STUFF
Northwestern and Penn State will clash for the 44th time in Sunday’s regular season finale, a series which the Nittany Lions lead, 29-8-6 (.750).

The Wildcats will be out for a small measure of revenge after dropping a 2-1 decision last season at Jeffrey Field.  Northwestern will be in search of its first win over Penn State since a 1-0 victory on October 30, 2016.
