This year at the Pushkar Mela, tourists will have the chance to see sand sculptor Ajay Rawat’s impressive replica of Jaipur’s Hawa Mahal, meticulously crafted from 100 tonnes of sand
The highly anticipated Pushkar Mela got underway on November 2. While the city is renowned as the abode of Brahma, it has also gained international recognition for this unique fair, widely regarded as India’s largest animal trade fair.
Pushkar attracts a steady influx of tourists throughout the year, but during this 15-day livestock fair, countless domestic and international visitors and traders arrive to immerse themselves in the authentic tapestry of Rajasthani culture.
Among the fair’s primary attractions, camel, cattle and horse competitions, alongside the allure of sand dunes, vibrant cultural programmes, spirited sports competitions, and the much-anticipated longest moustache competition, stand out as major crowd-pleasers. However this year, a remarkable sand sculpture of Jaipur’s iconic Hawa Mahal promises to be another major highlight of the fair.
Meticulously crafted by sand artist Ajay Rawat, this imposing structure is sculpted from 100 tonnes of sand.
In conversation with Local18, Rawat said, “It took me seven days to complete this huge sculpture.”
Originally hailing from Ganheda village near Pushkar, Rawat has dedicated over 12 years to preserving this traditional art form.
He further added that his sand sculpture offers tourists a tangible link to Rajasthan’s rich history and culture, presented in a truly captivating manner.
