Kelli-Leigh breaks silence on her painful journey against racism

Kelli-Leigh, a British singer and songwriter known for her soulful voice, recently shared an unpleasant experience of being nominated for a Grammy Awards.

The 39-year-old star sheds light on her journey as a Black woman in the music industry, admitting that she had to work harder than other people.

During her recent interview with the Mirror, the Grammy-nominated star shared, “A lot of us can feel unified on, we’ll all have a very slightly different experience.”

The On Repeat hitmaker opened up about the hurdles she faced which made her feel left out. Despite being a superstar, she still has to prove herself.

“Just because I’m a woman of colour, people will instantly go to R&B and I’d have to correct them. There brilliant R&B singers but that’s not my space. I have to work three times as hard, I have to prove myself three times as hard as my white counterpart would have to,” she added.

She highlighted the challenges she endured, saying that the music world can be very harsh on people who are constantly trying to prove themselves.

Kelli-Leigh remains patient and hopeful, as her Grammy nomination is not just about her personal win, it talks a lot about the racism she’s experiencing.
