Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner, who captured America’s hearts with their televised wedding in January 2024, announced their divorce three months later–on April 12, 2024.
The split came as a shock to many, as the couple’s wedding, broadcast earlier this year, was a moving display of love, complete with heartfelt vows that brought Bachelor Nation to tears.
At first, it appeared that the couple’s differing locations were the primary reason for their split, but Theresa Nist is now suggesting that there may have been deeper issues behind the scenes that contributed to their decision to part ways.

Theresa Nist Suggests Unspoken Challenges Led To Divorce
The couple, who met on “The Golden Bachelor” last year, got engaged, and tied the knot on live television in January, shocked Bachelor Nation when they announced their divorce just three months later in April.
While distance was cited as a significant factor, with Turner residing in Indiana and Nist in New Jersey, Nist now shares that distance wasn’t the only reason for their breakup.

Theresa Nist Admits You ‘Can’t Know Somebody In Four Weeks’
In their initial statement, the couple explained that their strong commitments to their respective families created difficulties in settling on a place to live, but Nist suggests that deeper, unspoken challenges also played a role in their decision to part ways.
“You really can’t know somebody in four weeks. I’ll just say that,” Nist admitted on the November 5 episode of Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti’s podcast, “Almost Famous.”
While noting it was “not just the location thing” that led to their divorce, she concluded with, “I don’t wanna say any more than that.”
Her recent interview comes months after the New Jersey native released a statement on social media to address the divorce, noting, “Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned, and that’s okay.”

Theresa Nist Describes An Argument She Had With Gerry Turner
Nist also told Ashley and Ben about a disagreement she and Turner had during one of her visits to Indiana.
“So we’re driving from the airport, and it was like three hours, and we’re getting closer to Gerry’s house,” she recalled. “So I see this open land — I don’t see crops, I just think it’s flat land — and I go, ‘Oh wow, you could build townhomes there!’ That’s all I said. And Gerry said, ‘Oh, so you wanna take the farmer’s land away from him?’ I go, ‘Note to self, don’t say that again.'”
Nist recounted that her comment unintentionally sparked a broader conversation about their differing views on land, with Turner reportedly becoming defensive over the protection of farmland in the Midwest.

Theresa Nist Says She Was ‘Ready To Move’
Nist also revealed that their initial plan was to relocate near Charleston, South Carolina. She shared that they had been “looking at homes virtually” since they were still living separately, and she was “still working full-time,” but added that they “never reached the point of finding a home.”
“I was willing to move. I wanted to have our big home where our family could come visit us,” she said on the podcast. “That was my idea because that’s what we had agreed upon.”

“And then, I guess, he loves his house, and I don’t blame him. He loves where he lives and… I want him to be happy,” she continued, but she noted that the plan they’d agreed upon “did change,” claiming that Turner “came up with the idea of doing six weeks there and six weeks here,” but she “truly wanted to have our home together.”
“It wasn’t what we had discussed. We had never discussed six weeks here, six weeks there,” the NJ native added.
Gerry Turner And Theresa Nist Finalize Divorce
The living arrangements were something the couple previously touched on, with the former “Golden Bachelor” lead saying, “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations [has been] how dedicated both of us are to our families. So we look at these conversations, and we both think it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
Nist chimed in, “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.
Nist and Turner finalized their divorce earlier this year.
