“This Is A War” – Guardiola Issues Strong Response As Arsenal Legend Accuses City Star Of Cowardly Act

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has brushed aside accusations that Erling Haaland went over the line with his antics during the game against Arsenal last weekend.

Gunners legend Ian Wright labelled the striker a “coward” for throwing the ball at the back of Gabriel’s head, sparking a clash between the two sets of players. However, when asked about Haaland’s behaviour, Guardiola replied:

“I would say that sometimes the emotions are so there. Gabriel said it perfectly after the match, so this is a war, we are here to provoke the opponent, to push them.”

“What do I have to do? And after, the emotions are the emotions. I’m pretty sure he’s (Haaland) not proud, but listen – the type of challenge that Arsenal challenges, I understand it.”

The City and Arsenal rivalry heats up

Due to the mutual respect between the two managers, encounters between the two clubs have not really had any needle up until now.

Guardiola and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s close relationship meant that any competitive edge in fixtures between the two teams was softened somewhat, despite being title rivals.

However, Haaland’s antics and Arsenal’s use of the so-called ‘dark arts” during the game at the Etihad means clashes between them may have more bite in the future.

Rodri injury blow will make title defence a lot tougher

Guardiola has now officially confirmed that the knee injury that Rodri sustained in the first half against Arsenal will keep him out for the rest of the season.

The Spanish international has already undergone an operation to repair ligament and meniscus damage. His rehabilitation will now begin.

Rodri’s absence will undoubtedly dent City’s title ambitions but the club has managed without key players in previous seasons and still managed to finish top of the table.
