Bezzecchi Does It Again: Back-to-Back Wins Put Him on Top of the MotoGP World

Marco Bezzecchi delivered a commanding performance at the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, taking the chequered flag at the Autodromo Internacional de Goiania to claim his second consecutive victory of the season. The Aprilia Racing rider crossed the line 3.2 seconds ahead of teammate Jorge Martin to complete a historic one-two for the Italian manufacturer — the first time Aprilia has ever achieved that result in MotoGP’s premier class.

The race itself arrived with more drama than anyone had anticipated. MotoGP was returning to Brazilian soil for the first time in 22 years, and the Goiania circuit made its presence felt in emphatic fashion. Flooding hit the venue earlier in the week, and then on Saturday, a sinkhole appeared on the main pit straight, throwing race preparations into chaos. Race direction handled the situation, and the circuit was deemed safe, but just five minutes before the formation lap on Sunday, officials announced a reduction of eight laps — cutting the race from 31 laps to 23 — citing ongoing track degradation. Riders had no opportunity to adjust tyre choices or fuel loads for the revised distance, adding an extra layer of strategy and uncertainty to an already unpredictable afternoon.

When the lights went out, Bezzecchi wasted no time. Starting from second on the grid, he swept past polesitter Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Ducati before the braking zone at Turn 1 and immediately set about building his advantage. By the end of lap five, he already held over a second on his pursuers, and he never relinquished that lead. His pace was simply in a different category on the day, and he produced the fastest lap of the race on lap 11 as if to underline the point.

Behind him, the race was considerably more eventful. Marc Marquez, who had won Saturday’s sprint for factory Ducati, found himself in a prolonged battle with Di Giannantonio for third place. Marquez appeared to have settled the matter with five laps remaining, passing the Italian at Turn 7, but he overcooked his braking at Turn 12 on the very next lap and ran wide, gifting Di Giannantonio the position back. The VR46 rider held firm to the finish to complete the podium and deliver Ducati its first podium of the 2026 season after what had been a difficult start to the year.

Further back, Reigning world champion Marquez had to settle for fourth, while Trackhouse Racing’s Ai Ogura impressed with a fifth-place finish after a string of late overtakes that caught the eye. Pedro Acosta, who had arrived in Brazil leading the championship standings on KTM, finished a frustrated seventh after struggling on the soft rear tyre late in the race — a result that would prove costly in the standings.

Jorge Martin, still building momentum after returning from injury, was the story of the weekend beyond Bezzecchi himself. The 2024 world champion finished second on Sunday having also taken his first sprint podium on Saturday, and his growing comfort aboard the Aprilia RS-GP was clear to see. While Bezzecchi was untouchable at the front, Martin managed the gap to Di Giannantonio behind him with composure and consistency across the final laps.

Francesco Bagnaia’s afternoon went from difficult to worse when he crashed out on lap 11 at Turn 1, while Joan Mir also retired after his own incident at Turn 4. Brazilian fans had one reason to celebrate regardless, as home rider Diogo Moreira crossed the line in 13th place to collect points in front of his own crowd.

With his victory on Sunday, Bezzecchi has now won four consecutive MotoGP Grands Prix, placing him alongside Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo, and Francesco Bagnaia as the only riders to achieve that feat. He now leads the 2026 World Championship standings by 11 points heading into the next round, having taken the title lead away from Acosta with one dominant afternoon in central Brazil.

The championship picture is sharpening quickly, and right now, Bezzecchi and Aprilia look like the combination to beat.
