Residents were opposing the construction of a flyover at this location.

According to the reports, the length of this corridor will be 2.2 kilometres.

Plans have been revised to tackle the problem of traffic jams from the Hero Honda Chowk to the Dwarka Expressway. Now, instead of a flyover between these 2 points, a 6-lane elevated corridor will be constructed. According to the reports, the length of this corridor will be 2.2 kilometres and it will connect Hero Honda Chowk with Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. The GMDA (Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority) has completed the work on a 3-kilometre stretch from the Umang Bhardwaj Chowk to the Dwarka Expressway Chowk. The NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has constructed an underpass under the Dwarka Expressway. The work from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk has been stalled since 2017. Residents were opposing the construction of a flyover here. As reported, the six-lane elevated corridor will have three lanes in each direction. They will run parallel to the proposed metro corridor, which will be constructed on the left side of the road.

As per the NHAI officials, the changes in the plans were made at the request of the GMDA. The GMDA suggested a viaduct should be built on this stretch instead of a Reinforced Earth wall. A reinforced earth wall is a combination of earth and linear reinforcing strips that are capable of bearing large tensile stresses. Yogesh Tilak, project director of the project implementing unit, said: “The decision to revise the plan was taken in consultation with GMDA. We have prepared the plan and profile as per their request and will finalise the new design within this week.”

In 2017, the state government approved the plan to widen the Hero Honda Chowk and Dwarka Expressway. The GMDA has taken the responsibility to handle the 2 sections of the total 5.6-kilometer stretch. The NHAI will bear the rest of the responsibility. The revamp plan has faced several revisions. Initially, this organisation had proposed to divide the road into six lanes. The works were supposed to start in 2019. Then it was decided that the project would be merged with the Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari highway. The starting date was then pushed from November 2021 to a deadline of November 2023.
