This will mark the Jags’ second consecutive preseason matchup against an opponent that previously went to the playoffs. And while Drew Brees is no longer the quarterback for the team, their defense, which was a top-10 group mostly remained in place. That said, the Jags should have a challenge on their hands depending on how the Saints utilize their starters.

Week 2 of the NFL preseason ends with an intriguing matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes Superdome on Monday. Both teams lost their first preseason games last weekend, but there’s more at stake in this clash than just a win.

acksonville Jaguars at New Orleans Saints: Team news

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has already announced that Jameis Winston will start against the Jaguars.

Neither of the Saints’ potential starting quarterbacks did themselves any favors last weekend in the team’s 17-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Taysom Hill and Winston both threw interceptions and weren’t convincing overall.

So Monday night’s clash will be key for the quarterbacks to show they deserve the nod in Week 1.

Payton is likely to keep most defensive starters on the sidelines again as they have some real issues with their depth on that side of the ball.

All eyes will yet again be on Trevor Lawrence. The rookie quarterback was sacked on his first snap in the NFL but recovered to post decent numbers. He completed six out of nine passes for 71 yards and had no turnovers. Expect to see more of Lawrence on Monday night at the Mercedes Superdome.

After a 17-14 loss at the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium, the New Orleans Saints (0-1) will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) on Monday night in the Caesars Superdome to open their 2021 home preseason slate.

New Orleans and Jacksonville have faced each other in in two exhibitions, with each club claiming their road matchup. The two clubs last met in the regular season at TIAA Bank Field on October 13, 2019 with the Saints pulling out a dramatic 13-6 victory with a fourth quarter touchdown, while keeping the Jaguars out of the end zone.

New Orleans looks to rebound from Saturday’s loss at Baltimore, while Jacksonville fell to the Cleveland Browns at home on Saturday.

Jaguars vs. Saints matchup preview

A new era has begun in Jacksonville, headlined by new head coach Urban Meyer and first overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Meyer won national championships at Florida and Ohio State in college football, while Lawrence is one of the most highly touted QB prospects in years, but how they adjust to the NFL is going to be a storyline the whole league is excited to see. Both saw their first NFL action in week one of the preseason, a 23-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns; after an early sack, Lawrence seemed to settle into the game. This is a completely different Jaguars team than the one that nearly made it to Super Bowl LII in 2018, but they’re not the only one in this matchup going through major changes.
