Amanda Seyfried is eager to carry on a tradition by singing the title song in a potential third Mamma Mia! instalment.
During a conversation with SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, Seyfried, 38, revealed her dream.
“I want to sing Mamma Mia because I haven’t yet. It was Meryl’s song, and it was Lily’s song. I think Sophie deserves a shot because it’s my favourite song,” adding that it’s also her daughter’s favourite.
In the original film, Meryl Streep’s character, Donna, performs the iconic track when her former suitors arrive.
In the 2018 sequel, Lily James sang it alongside Jessica Keenan Wynn and Alexa Davies as younger versions of Donna and her friends.
Now, Seyfried hopes to pass the song to her character, Sophie, the daughter of Streep’s Donna.
She wished to cover the title track after Shaw asked which song she’d love to duet with Sabrina Carpenter.
Last week, Seyfried expressed interest in having Carpenter, 25, play her daughter in a third film, especially after the pop star covered the title track during the opening night of her Short N’ Sweet tour.
