Liverpool manager Arne Slot has heaped praise on Joe Gomez following his impressive second half performance against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
The Reds were second-best against the Seagulls in the opening half at Anfield and they could have easily conceded more than one goal. Brighton missed several chances.
In the second half, the Reds were by far the better team and they eventually came on top after goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah in the space of just three minutes.
Gomez came on after the break after Ibrahima Konate suffered a shoulder issue. He was brilliant alongside Virgil van Dijk and almost scored his maiden career goal.
Speaking after the game, Slot praised the mentality of the England international, who has largely been a fringe player in the current campaign.
He said: “Yeah, that says a lot about his mentality. That also says a lot about his quality, if you don’t play that much and you come in.
“In a game where your teammates were outplayed for 45 minutes, that you can come in and play like this.”
With the win, Liverpool have a two-point lead at the top of the league table following Manchester City’s shock 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on the road.
