After an incredible playing career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning an NFL record seven Super Bowl titles, future Hall of Famer Tom Brady chose to take on a new challenge to go from the football field to the broadcast booth.

Although there have been some success stories of former quarterbacks making this transition, like Dallas Cowboys legends Tony Romo and Troy Aikman, not all former players can pull off this career change and tend to flame out quickly, like New Orleans Saints icon Drew Brees.

With Brady being the most successful football player in the history of the game, many have given him the benefit of the doubt that he’d make the seamless transition to the broadcast booth and provide a lot of insight while covering NFL games.

However, halfway into his first season, Brady has gotten mixed reviews as a broadcaster, with some believing he’s forcing it a bit or not coming off as natural like Romo and Aikman have been able to do over the years.

Bill Simmons of The Ringer, a big fan of Brady and the Patriots, openly criticized the quarterback he’s rooted for over the past two decades, thinking he’s an untapped resource for FOX Sports and not getting used properly in the broadcast booth.

“This guy is one of the greatest resources in football that we have, and they don’t tap into any of it,” Simmons said.

Simmons isn’t wrong in his assessment, as Brady does seem to be providing fake energy while on broadcasts and not seeming like he’s a good fit, but it is early, and he needs time to figure things out in this new gig after over 20 years of playing the game.

Only time will tell whether Brady will succeed in this new gig, but fortunately, he has time to develop.
