EVANSTON, Ill. (October 14, 2024) – Northwestern (7-5, 1-4 B1G) looks to build off a thrilling victory when it begins a brief homestand against Wisconsin in a 7 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday evening at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern rallied back from an early deficit to upend Rutgers by a 2-1 final this past Friday at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.  Nigel Prince put the ‘Cats back on level terms in the 44th minute before Akinjide Awujo levied the night’s deciding strike in the 68th minute.  Playing in his native New Jersey, Rafael Ponce de León added a pair of saves in goal across the closing 20 minutes of regulation to help secure Northwestern’s first Big Ten Conference win of 2024.

SCOUTING WISCONSIN
Wisconsin, which has spent multiple weeks ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, enters Tuesday at 6-4-1 overall.  The Badgers are currently mired in a four-match winless run (0-3-1), a streak that was extended with a 2-0 setback to Michigan State last Friday that has brought their record in Big Ten Conference play to 1-4-1.  Third-year head coach Neil Jones’ team owns a pair of wins over top-20 opposition this season, boasting victories over No. 12 UCLA, 4-1, and No. 12 Kentucky, 1-0.

Dean Boltz has taken the Big Ten by storm in his freshman season, piling up a conference-best nine goals to go along with four assists.  The current league-leader in overall points (22), Boltz’s nine tallies are tied for ninth nationally.  Trip Fleming sits behind Boltz on the Badgers’ scoring chart, having put up five goals and three assists across 10 appearances. Thomas Raimbault and Matthew Zachemski have also added two goals apiece in 2024 for Jones’ side.

Goalkeeper Matisse Hébert sports a 1.06 goals against average across 10 starts this season. His four shutouts rank second amongst Big Ten Conference netminders.

SERIES STUFF
Northwestern and Wisconsin will battle for the 53rd time on Tuesday evening along the shores of Lake Michigan, a series in which the Badgers lead, 31-13-8 (.683).  Wisconsin is unbeaten (3-0-1) in its last four visits to Evanston, with Northwestern’s last win on its home turf coming back on November 5, 2014 by a 2-0 scoreline.

When the two teams met last season at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis., Ugo Achara Jr. (54′) and Ibrahim Obeid (71′) staked Northwestern to a two-goal edge, but the hosts found the back of the net twice over the final 15:46 to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw.
