The Dallas Cowboys’ season has been anything but smooth sailing.
Sitting at 3-4 with one of the NFL’s most demanding schedules ahead, their playoff hopes are dimming.
A turnaround needs to start immediately as they prepare to face the Atlanta Falcons, but recent developments at running back have added another layer to their challenges.
Surprisingly, Ezekiel Elliott reportedly won’t be suiting up for the Week 9 game at Atlanta.
“Ezekiel Elliott will not be active vs. Atlanta and will not make the trip with the Cowboys because of disciplinary reasons, according to a source. First time he is a healthy scratch in a non-season finale in his career,” Todd Archer of ESPN wrote on X.

The specific cause behind Elliott’s benching remains undisclosed.
The Cowboys responded by elevating Dalvin Cook from the practice squad for a second consecutive week, offering him another opportunity to make an impact.
This season, Elliott has gained 149 rushing yards with two touchdowns in the seven games.
Dallas’ rushing woes have been evident, as they rank last in the NFL in total rushing yards (519) and share the bottom spot in rushing touchdowns (3).
The situation stems from a series of changes in their backfield strategy.
After losing Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans as a free agent, the Cowboys brought Elliott back into the fold after releasing him the prior offseason to avoid the salary cap implications of his six-year, $90 million contract extension from 2019.
