What begins as the body’s way of protecting itself can, when persistent, contribute to conditions ranging from fatigue to more serious illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer. Acute inflammation is a short-term and immediate response of the body to injurious stimuli. Infections or physical trauma do cause acute inflammation. Chronic inflammation occurs when a body’s inflammatory response goes on for a long time after an injury or infection has been healed.

Persistent skin conditions like acne and psoriasis can be linked to chronic inflammation which may drain your energy making you feel tired, exhausted and sluggish. Chronic inflammation also plays a damaging role in the immune system. It weakens the immune system, eventually, leaving a person vulnerable to infections and other health hazards.

Chronic inflammation may often result in the appearance of several issues like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and cancer.

Causes of inflammation

Issues such as lack of physical activities, unhealthy diet, persistent stress and using tobacco products may cause inflammation. Exposure to injurious materials such as chemicals, cigarette smoke or pollution can also cause inflammation.

Preventive measures

Whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats should be included in the diet. Processed foods, sugary snacks and refined carbohydrates must be avoided. Some herbs are known to possess strong anti-inflammatory properties. Herbs such as turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and green tea are some of the vital herbs in this regard.

Drinking an adequate amount of water on a daily basis is needed to support the natural detoxification processes of the body and it also helps in maintaining overall well-being as well.
