The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team’s season came to an end following a 4-0 loss to Lewisburg in the District IV Class 2A Semi-Finals on Tuesday, October 29 at the Balls Mills Complex in Williamsport.
“Throughout the season we’ve talked about breaking barriers,” said head coach Todd Fitch. “We’ve never beaten Lewisburg; haven’t even had a shot on goal in our two previous post season match ups with them. Tonight, however, we did create some opportunities with six shots on goal. It’’ a small consolation, but it’s a step forward in our quest to break through.”
Viktor Permyashkin scored a hat trick for the Green Dragons. He had two first half goals then scored with 3:27 remaining in the second half on a penalty kick for the game’s final goal. Riley Gulden-Luthi scored Lewisburg’s other goal, their final one of the first half.
“This group of seniors have had a remarkable three year varsity career finishing with a league record of 34-1-1 and an overall record of 45-10-1,” continued Fitch. “They will certainly leave big shoes to fill as players and as overall quality young men.”
Lewisburg out shot Wellsboro 12-6 and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Camden Tom made 5 saves on the evening.
The 2024 NTL Champion Hornets finish their season with a 15-5 record (12-0 NTL).
