In danger of losing 0K Bikeway grant, Jersey City asks state DOT for more time

With the clock ticking on the expiration of a $670,000 state grant that would help fund the first permanent protected bike lanes in the Jersey City Heights, the city is asking the state for an extension.

A one-month demonstration period of the protected bike lanes this summer — on short stretches of Franklin Street and Manhattan Avenue — was a success, bike advocates say, but the city council must move forward with a plan by December to ensure the grant, officials said.
