There is a huge confusion about the Ashtami and Navami tithis of Sharadiya Navratri this year. The auspicious Ashtami will be celebrated on Friday, October 11. Dussehra, that is Vijaya Dashami, will be celebrated on October 12. In such a situation, the question arises as to when Navami will be celebrated. Due to this confusion about the date, devotees who observe fast on Ashtami are confused. Many devotees observe fast for nine days and break the fast on Dashami, while many observe fast on Ashtami and break the fast on Navami. In such a situation, people are confused about the fast. As per the scriptures, the fast of Ashtami-Navami is considered auspicious. Astrologer Pandit Nand Kishore Mudgal of Devghar shared with Local18 that this year Navratri has commenced on October 3 and will end on October 12. One of the important tithi in the Navratri festivities is Udaya Tithi. Observing fast should be done on the date following Udaya Tithi.

When are the Ashtami and Navami tithi of Navratri?

As per the astrologer, this year Navpatrika Pravesh will occur on Saptami, Thursday, October 10. The Ashtami fast will be observed on the next day, that is Friday, October 11. Ashtami tithi will last only till 06:52 am on Friday, after which Navami tithi will begin. As per the Udaya Tithi, Maha Ashtami fast will be observed on October 11 and the fast has to be broken on October 12, Navami before 06:52 am.

The astrologer also shared that Ashtami will be celebrated in two days. On October 10, Saptami Tithi will last till 12:30 pm and then Maha Ashtami Tithi will start and last till 06:52 on October 11. He advised devotees to not observe fast on October 10 as Ashtami Tithi with Saptami Tithi is coinciding and is not considered auspicious. He suggested that the fast should be observed on Ashtami when it coincides with Navami Tithi and the fast can be broken on Navami day after sunrise.

This year, Ashtami Yukt Navami is on October 11 and Navami tithi will last till 06:52 am on October 12, so one can observe Ashtami fast in the morning. The Dashami Tithi starts after 06:52 am on October 12.
