Northwestern Wraps Up Road Slate Tuesday At No. 25 Indiana On BTN – Northwestern Athletics

EVANSTON, Ill. (October 28, 2024) – Northwestern (8-6-1, 2-5-1 B1G) wraps up the road portion of its 2024 regular season schedule on Tuesday evening, visiting No. 25 Indiana for a 7 p.m. (CT) kickoff on Big Ten Network.

LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern played No. 1 Ohio State even across the opening 45 minutes before the Buckeyes netted a pair of second-half goals to pick up a 2-0 win over the Wildcats last Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.  Rafael Ponce de León matched a career high with five saves, while Collin McCamy paced Northwestern in the attacking third with three shots.

SCOUTING INDIANA
Currently perched atop the Big Ten Conference table, Indiana, which is ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, sports an 8-3-5 overall record that includes a 6-1-2 ledger in league action.  The Hoosiers, who are piloted by four-time Big Ten Head Coach of the Year Todd Yeagley, have rattled off five straight wins, most recently picking up a 2-1 win over No. 15 UCLA this past Friday in Los Angeles, Calif.  Indiana is unbeaten across its last eight contests (6-0-2), a run which began in a 2-2 draw with then No. 4 Ohio State back on September 27.  Yeagley’s team has found the back of the net 29 times this season, a mark which ranks second in the Big Ten.

Tommy Mihalic is at the forefront of the Hoosiers’ attack, having scored a team-high eight goals this season, two of which have gone down as game-winners. Mihalic’s eight tallies are tied for second in the Big Ten.  Samuel Sarver has been equally as dangerous in the offensive third, tallying four goals and a team-best seven assists.  Sarver, who was named a Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches in 2023, registered the deciding strike in Indiana’s aforementioned win over UCLA last week.

JT Harms has played in every minute of every game in goal for Indiana, posting a 1.19 goals against average and a 0.721 save percentage.  A Second Team All-Big Ten honoree last season, Harms has four shutouts to his name this season.

SERIES STUFF
Tuesday’s road finale marks the 49th all-time meeting between Northwestern and Indiana in men’s soccer.  The Hoosiers, who lead the all-time series by a 37-4-7 (.844) margin, saw their five-match win streak against the ‘Cats snapped last season as a Nigel Prince goal in the 25th minute provided the difference in a 1-0 Northwestern win on October 24 at Martin Stadium.

Northwestern is just 1-19-3 (.109) in its previous 23 visits to Bill Armstrong Stadium, with the Wildcats’ lone victory coming in a 1-0 triumph back on October 17, 2014.
