NEW DELHI: BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani on Thursday led the tributes after the passing of industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, describing him as a “giant of Indian Industry” in his condolence message. Prominent figures across the political spectrum, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, former PM Manmohan Singh, and LoP Rahul Gandhi expressed their grief over the loss of one of India’s most revered business leaders.
Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, Ratan Tata, passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 86. He was widely known for his vision, integrity, and leadership, Tata left an indelible mark on Indian industry and society.
LK Advani, 96, shared a heartfelt condolence message, mourning the loss of a “giant of Indian Industry.” He praised Tata’s leadership and the lasting impact he had on the Tata Group and Indian business. “Among Indian business houses, Tatas have been the one I have admired the most,” Advani wrote.
He also recalled his last communication with Tata earlier this year, when Tata congratulated him on receiving the Bharat Ratna. Advani described the late industrialist’s “warmth, generosity, and kindness” as always being “deeply endearing.”

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat also paid tribute, calling Tata’s death “immense sorrow for all Bhartiyas.” In a post on X, Bhagwat hailed Tata’s contribution to India’s development, highlighting his leadership in industry and his commitment to the nation’s unity, security, and social welfare. He praised Tata’s humility and simplicity, saying that these qualities made him an exemplary figure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow in a tweet, calling Tata a “visionary business leader” and an “extraordinary human being.” PM also praised Tata’s stable leadership of one of India’s most prestigious business houses and mentioned that his contributions extended far beyond business. “His humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment to making our society better endeared him to many,” PM wrote.

Union home minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to Tata, remembering him as a respected global industrialist who transformed the Tata Group at a critical time. Shah acknowledged Tata’s major contributions, particularly in areas like education and cancer treatment, and said his legacy would continue to inspire professionals in the industry. Shah is set to attend Tata’s last rites at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) lawns in Mumbai on the behalf of government.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid tribute to Ratan Tata in a letter to Tata Group chairperson Natarajan Chandrasekaran. Remembering Tata’s courage and integrity, Singh wrote, “He had the courage to speak the truth to those in power. I have fond memories of working closely with him on several occasions.”

Congress leaders also mourned the loss. LoP Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, described Tata as “a man with a vision” whose legacy in business and philanthropy would endure.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that in Tata’s passing, India had lost “an invaluable son” known for his commitment to inclusive growth and ethical leadership.
