At this point, the Los Angeles Lakers are heading into the 2024-25 NBA regular season with low expectations, as they will be debuting a first-time head coach with no experience and could not improve their roster through NBA free agency or trades.

Along with all the questions surrounding whether JJ Redick can get the job done as the new leader on the sideline, the Lakers also made the questionable move to bring in LeBron James’ son Bronny James in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

After three preseason games, it is pretty clear that Bronny James is far from being able to play on the NBA level, and he’ll likely spend most of his rookie season in the G League with the South Bay Lakers.

However, the Lakers aren’t going to miss out on an opportunity to make league history, as Redick intends to play Bronny James with LeBron James at some point, which would be the first time a father-son duo will play together in an NBA regular season game.

Shams Charania of ESPN claims that the Lakers are planning for the historic event to happen sooner rather than later.

“It’s going to be early in the season, making sure they have their moment and honoring that moment,” Charania said, via ESPN Radio.

Although the Lakers will have a tough challenge ahead of them right out of the gate to start the season hosting Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles could have the historic moment happen right away, making opening night much more special on Oct. 22.

It remains to be seen when Bronny James and LeBron James will share the court, but getting it out of the way quickly is probably the smart move for Redick and his coaching staff.
