Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is under investigation by the NBA after allegedly confronting and pushing a local journalist, Marcus Hayes, over a critical article. The incident occurred after the Sixers’ 124-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, as reporters entered the locker room. Embiid, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, reportedly took offense to Hayes’ column, which questioned his professionalism and mentioned his son and late brother, both named Arthur.

Embiid, sitting out his fifth straight game, allegedly warned Hayes not to bring up his family again, using strong language and rejecting an apology. The confrontation escalated when Embiid reportedly shoved Hayes, prompting the team’s public relations officer to intervene.

The NBA confirmed they are investigating the incident, with an official stating, “We are aware of reports of an incident in the Sixers locker room this evening and are commencing an investigation.” Team officials tried to move reporters from the locker room and asked them not to cover the scene.

Daryl Morey, president of basketball operations for the 76ers, emphasized the seriousness of the situation and mentioned the NBA had already been contacted. Embiid had also expressed frustration earlier regarding media coverage of his injury and recovery, defending his decision to sit out games for his health despite previous sacrifices for the team.
