Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke will miss the rest of the 2024 season with a knee injury, according to multiple reports. The senior sustained an ACL tear in his right knee during the Badgers’ 42-10 loss against Alabama, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Van Dyke exited the game on the first drive of the game when his knee buckled while he was tackled trying to convert a third-down opportunity. Alabama was called for a penalty on the play, which set up a Wisconsin field goal after the injury. Ultimately, the Badgers failed to create any consistent offense after Van Dyke went down.
Van Dyke transferred to Wisconsin after starting 28 games at Miami, completing 63.5% of his passes for 7,469 yards with 54 touchdowns. He grew into a serious NFL prospect as a redshirt freshman and won ACC Rookie of the Year honors. However, he struggled to maintain his production throughout his college career. In his first two full starts at Wisconsin, Van Dyke completed 60% of his passes for 406 yards and one touchdown.
Now, all eyes turn to backup quarterback Braedyn Locke, a redshirt sophomore from Rockwall, Texas. The high school quarterback of former Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba threw a touchdown, but completed only 50% of his passes for 125 yards against Alabama. Locke has averaged just 5.1 yards per attempt during his career.
