Victor Wembanyama has been ruled out for the rest of the NBA season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The San Antonio Spurs discovered the condition after the 21-year-old returned from the All-Star Championship Game, where he played but ended up on the losing side.
In a statement, the Spurs confirmed, “Victor Wembanyama has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The condition was discovered when he returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season, and the team will provide updates as necessary.”
Deep vein thrombosis is a potentially serious condition, often affecting the legs, and can lead to pulmonary embolism if the clot travels to the lungs. Treatment typically involves blood-thinning medications like warfarin or surgery to remove the clot, both of which would prevent Wembanyama from playing basketball.
Wembanyama had scored a team-high 11 points in Chuck’s Global Stars’ loss to Shaq’s OGs on Sunday, with Steph Curry leading the OGs with 12 points and being named All-Star MVP.
