Yankees infuriate fans for stadium song choice as Dodgers celebrate World Series: ‘Pathetic’

Maybe the Yankee Stadium sound crew was just as stunned as the rest of the baseball world that the Yankees choked away Game 5 of the World Series en route to being ousted by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.

Because after blowing a 5-0 lead thanks to an error-filled fifth inning and sloppy rest of the game, the Dodgers soared back to a 7-6 win. But Yankee Stadium still blasted “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra as the Dodgers celebrated on the field, angering fans, even though the song gets played during other losses.

    RESTORING THE GLORY

@ Jomboy: Yankee stadium is blasting New York New York by Frank Sinatra. What do we have to do to stop this? How could you possibly play THE YANKEES WIN SONG as the Dodgers celebrate eliminating the Yankees on the field?

@ShaunMorash: I know you play New York New York no matter what, but you CANNOT do that tonight as another team celebrates.

@PSURecruitTalk: Should be playing the circus theme after that 5th inning meltdown

@NorthSideCapper: Yeah. Pretty pathetic. A lot needs to change with the Yankees organization and this specific crop of players/staff. George would be ashamed.

@DarthEnvy: playing frank sinatra after this loss is insane

@thejrbaimanSHOW: Cmon Jomboy they play it after every game no matter what. I know you know this. All time epic failure by this loser team tonight

@insertsports: Because Hal is about as removed from reality as one can possibly be.

On the way to blowing Game 5, the Yankees made three errors — two in the fifth inning, which included ace Gerrit Cole not covering first base on a grounder to Anthony Rizzo — had a catcher’s interference call and a balk. All told, there were five unearned runs scored in the fifth inning, which also included four hits and a walk on 10 base runners.
