A former Dartmouth police officer convicted of raping a family member and molesting a teenage family friend was sentenced to at least a decade in prison on Thursday, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Shawn Souza will serve between 10 and 15 years after a jury found him guilty of two counts of aggravated rape of a child, one count of rape of a child by force and one count of indecent assault and battery of a person 14 or older, Quinn’s office said.
During Souza’s trial in Fall River Superior Court, prosecutors presented evidence showing he raped his family member when she was between six and eight years old, between 2011 and 2013. He also molested a 15-year-old girl who was a family friend and visited his home with her family to watch a movie, according to Quinn’s office.
