On Sunday, HBO’s John Oliver ended his show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, with a plea.
“There is one thing I’m going to be genuinely excited for on Tuesday, and that is if Donald Trump loses this election, he’s basically finished,” Oliver said. “When the dust settled, he’d have lost two elections in a row, and he would be campaigning as an 82-year-old the next time. I think he’d be done. And doesn’t that sound great?
“The problems that he’s a symptom of would, of course, remain, but we wouldn’t have to deal with him anymore. Wouldn’t it be great to live in a world where he’s no longer an active threat, just an annoyance?”
Oliver’s audience cheered wildly at the thought of a world without Trump, Amen.
But, of course, it’s not just Trump, it’s the people around him, too.
Take for instance, campaign mouthpiece Steven Cheung, who jumped on Twitter on Monday, to call Patrick Dillon, the husband of Kamala Harris’ campaign chair, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, a “cuck.”
Patrick Dillon — a former White House official under President Obama and savvy about political journalism — recognized Tim Alberta’s latest piece in The Atlantic — “Inside the Ruthless, Restless Final Days of Trump’s Campaign — for what it was: Finger-pointing by Trump operatives who are eager to explain why the campaign imploded in the final weeks and who is at fault.
“Pro tip: campaign managers confident of winning do not leak their whole CYA case in long form the weekend before the election …” Dillon tweeted.
Cheung fired back in typical Trumpian fashion, with an insult: ”Cuck husband of Kamala chairperson has no idea what he’s talking about because he’s used to not knowing what’s going on behind his back.”
This comes on the heels of Trump campaign advisor Chris LaCivita’s angry response to Harris campaign advisor David Plouffe’s assertion that Trump essentially torpedoed any chance he had to win with the Madison Square Garden rally that insulted Latinos, Jews, Blacks, women and other voting blocs.
““What the hell is he going to say? He’s losing?” LaCivita told political blogger Mark Halperin, who tweeted the quote. “Fact of the matter is David can’t do anything but bullshit until Tuesday because we are kicking his ass.
“The only thing the Harris campaign has functional at this point is a bullshit machine that is dutifully repeated by the legacy media as if fact.”
LaCivita then tweeted, “I approve this message.”
